CCTV cameras are an integral part of today’s society and their usage has helped in capturing and convicting offenders time and time again. Video evidence shows what really goes on – in a way that written statements cannot. Yet using a hand-held video camera restricts both movement and vision. So how can police officers manage to capture compelling evidence while still carrying out their normal duties?
The BT Body Worn Video system uses a small, lightweight camera mounted on a headset, so that the camera is carried comfortably above the ear. It enables officers to record high quality evidence – useful in bringing the scene of an incident into the courtroom. The officer can also easily show the suspect the evidence that has been recorded whilst on patrol or at the station – leading to earlier pleas of “guilty”.
The use of BT’s Body Worn Video can also significantly reduce the amount of time officers spend preparing paperwork and case files. This enables them to spend more time patrolling the streets, increasing visibility and public confidence. Body Worn Video acts as a strong deterrent to physical attack – helping to protect officers from violence.
BT is working with Cylon (formerly distributed by Audax) to deliver Body Worn Video designed to police specifications. Cylon has a great track record in supplying forces with Body Worn Video, with over 40 forces across the UK using the Cylon system. Cylon is now exclusively available (in the UK and Ireland) through BT in the form of BT Body Worn Video.
Although developed to police specifications, BT Body Worn Video is also suitable for use by door supervisors, security guards, traffic wardens, Community Safety Officers and rail staff.
